Dan,
I think part of the problem is that a lot of people still think of him as a Vertigo property, and therefore off-limits as a superhero somehow, and the rest is the focus on the A-list, who to me are less interesting characters because they lack the personal touch.

I am probably going to keep "Stray Toasters" to read over the holidays, when I have the time to devote to it. I think it deserves my undivided attention. Right now, I'd be lucky to get through ten pages of it in a sitting.

I guess I know what you mean about "Top Ten" - some of the dialog is a little off, some of the pacing is a little slow. I'm enjoying it though.

And thanks for commenting. Good to get the feedback.

Feel free to post the links. I'd be interested in reading someone else's take on the character and the subject.

Another interesting article, and funnily enough a topic I was reading about just last week on another website. I'll throw the links up if you're ok with it.

Cheers,

HI, There:

I agree 100 percent with you on Animal Man. There's just something about him that is appealing. I've never understood why he's been so under-utilized.

I actually bought my first issue of Animal Man because of the Invasion Crossover, then went through and picked up a couple of back issues that looked interesting.

Fortunately this was one of them. I'm remember being disturbed by it when I got it (I wasn't a kid but a teen doing work experience in a comic shop) and just incredibly saddened by Animal's final line in it.

"I'm sorry, I can't read this.."

It's a comic I try to make people read when I remember it.

Hey, Blackbird:

Nice post. It's nice to see the good shops get some nice press. We too often hear about how snide and unhelpful the staffers at comic-book shops can be, but I've found the people who work at my local shop to be incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and laid-back. Not rude at all.

It's arguably the best book to come out of America's Best Comics. I've read it a half-dozen times, and it never ceases to entertain.

Hi, There:

I have to agree with you on The Forty-Niners. I found this at my local library and was completely entranced. Not only were the characters believable and complex, they were likable, despite any flaws they may have had. I found this to be a completely engrossing book.
